It’s been 2 months now since Sony has pulled the curtains off from its latest flagship Xperia Z1, While Google already announced the Android 4.4 KitKat, it was expected that Xperia Z1 will at least run on Android 4.3 Jelly Bean, perhaps keeping the 4.3 aside, Sony pushed in 4.2.2 and 4.3 update was to roll out soon. Sony has already announced its plan for Android 4.4 KitKat, while still no 4.3 update was available, and finally Sony has rolled out 4.3 update today, chances are that 4.4 KitKat will be following it very soon.
A while ago I updated by Xperia Z1 to Android 4.3 Jelly Bean and thought why not to share with you guys right here. In the following post, I’ve explained the method to installed the latest firmware based on Android 4.3 Jelly Bean with the build number 14.2.A.0.290 on Sony Xperia Z1 C6903. You just got to follow this guide to the letter, but before we begin let’s have a look on what’s new in this update.
Android 4.3 Jelly Bean Download

Pre-requisites and Pre-cautions:
- This method is only for SonyXperia Z1 C6903. Do not try this on any other device, check your device’s model in Settings > About Device.
- You need to have installed Sony Flashtool,Flashtool drivers, and Sony Drivers. Follow the full Flashtool Guide here.
- Make sure that you’ve backed up all your important media content, contacts, call logsand text messages. This is highly recommended in case you need to wipe your phone during the installation process or something goes wrong.
- Make sure that you enable USB debugging options before connecting your device. In case you can’t find the developer options in settings, then you’ll have to enable them. To do so, open Settings > About device > tap build number for 7 times and you should have enabled the developer options in settings. Now enable USB debugging mode under dev options.
- If you have already rooted your phone, it is highly recommended that you use the Titanium Backup to backup all your data so that in case you have to wipe your phone, you can still restore each and everything.
- Use only OEM data cable to connect your device to your PC in order to prevent any connection issues.
- You do not need root access for flashing this firmware, neither you need a custom recovery.

For other Xperia Z1 variants, Check out:
- Download Android 4.3 Jelly Bean official firmware (N7100XXUENB2) or Here and save it in your PC. Now, download Odin v3.09 from here and save it in your PC. Extract the downloaded Android 4.3 firmware zip file by using 7-Zip app to get a.tar.md5 file and some other additional files.
- Download and install official Android 4.1 Jelly Bean Firmware for Samsung Galaxy S III now. Yes, all Samsung Galaxy S3 users can enjoy official Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean Firmware XXDLIB after several leaked Jelly Bean firmwares.
How to Install Android 4.3 Jelly Bean on Xperia Z1 C9603:
- Download the latest firmware Android 4.3 Jelly Bean 14.2.A.0.290. Please download the firmware carefully.
- In case you are confused between which firmware to download, download a Generic/Unbranded firmware if your phone is not a carier branded, download a branded firmware only if your phone is carier/variant specified.
- After you install the Flashtool, open the Flashtool folder from the drive where you installed it.
- Place the downloaded firmware.ftf file in Firmware folder under Flashtool folder.
- Open Drivers folder under the Flashtool, and run the Flashtool-drivers and install Flashtool, Fastboot and drivers from Xperia Z1 from the list.
- Now run the Flashtool.
- In Flashtool, click on the small lightening button, and select Flashmode.
- Select the ftf file that you downloaded and placed under the Firmwares folder in Flashtool.
- From the right side, select/unselect the options to wipe cache, data and apps log.
- As soon as you select the firmware, it will start preparing the files for flashing.
- As soon as the preparation is done, it will prompt you to turn off your phone and then connect it keeping the back key pressed.
- For Xperia Z1, Volume Down key will do the job of back key. Turn off your phone completely, now press the Volume Down key and while keeping it pressed plug in the data cable.
- As soon as data cable is plugged in, Flashtool will start flashing the firmware and will complete it in a while. Do not leave the Volume Down key until the flashing process is done.
- As soon as its completed, plug out the cable.
- Phewwww! That’s It. You have the latest Android 4.3 Jelly Bean installed on your Xperia Z1! Enjoy!

Android 4.3 Jelly Bean Official OTA Update is now available for the Samsung Galaxy S3 I9300. Use this tutorial and learn how to manually flash the new firmware upgrade using Odin. Read the entire post and make sure that you don't skip any steps that I've listed below.
The Android 4.3 JB update brings the following changes for your Galaxy S3: Galaxy Gear support, TRIM supprot, ANT+ support, new Samsung keyboard, updated GPU drivers, revamped lockscreen, DayDream, Driving Mode, move-to-sd-card support, new camera mode, Samsung Galaxy S4 Settings UI and others more.

This update is rolled out in phases, with Vodafone Ireland being the first country and carrier who rolled out the update. All the other regions will receive the updating files starting later today. Those of you who are on stock ROM can use the Samsung KIES software to upgrade or wait for the Notification OTA message to be sent to your device, or you can go yourself to Settings, Software Update and check for new firmware files.
Read the guidelines listed below before starting the updating process:
- Use this article only for the Samsung Galaxy S3 International model number I9300.
- this is the Exynos 4 Quad CPU.
- do not attempt to update any other Galaxy S3 models with the files you find here. - If your device is full stock then you won't lose any data from your device.
- In case you have only rooted the phone without any customizations, then the update installation will revoke root without deleting data.
- If the phone is rooted and it features a custom ROM, then it will delete the system partition contents.
- internal / external storage won't be affected by the installation. - Download and install the Samsung USB Drivers for your Windows PC from here.
- Disable / uninstall Samsung KIES software from running on your PC.
- Disable all antivirus / security applications before starting the installation, as otherwise these might interfere with the process.
- Create backup for important files, just in case something goes wrong during the update.
- Make sure that your phone's battery has enough power left before it completely switches off. In case the device powers off while you're updating its firmware, then you will be forced to repeat the entire tutorial once again.
- This guide is for advanced users, do not blame us in case you brick the phone.
- If you cannot complete the update, then you should ask for more help in comments and we will try to come up with viable solutions, so that you'll upgrade your device with the latest Jelly Bean official OS.

How to flash official Android 4.3 Jelly Bean OTA Update for Samsung Galaxy S3 I9300:
- Download the Android 4.3 firmware update from here. (Vodafone Ireland Android 4.3 Update files).
- if you want to download a different region build, then you can follow the SamMobile link here. Make sure to create an account in order to be able to visit SamMobile. - Extract the zip contents and place the '.tar.md5' file on your desktop.
- don't extract any further than that. - Download Odin from here.
- extract Odin contents to a single folder. - Power off your Galaxy S3 now.
- Boot the phone in Android Download Mode.
- Press and hold Volume Down, Home and Power all at the same time, then release the buttons when the 'Warning!' screen appears. Press Volume Up to confirm the Download Mode boot.
- if you don't know how to do it, then you can follow our guide here. - Launch ODIN exe on your PC.
- Connect your smartphone with your computer via USB Cable.
- wait for Odin to recognize your Galaxy S3, then continue tot the next step.
- if the phone is not added by Odin, then you need to switch between USB ports or re-install the USB Drivers. - Now, go to Odin screen, click on PDA and load the .tar.md5 firmware file.
- don't change any default settings and make sure that Re-Partition is disabled. - Click the START button whenever you're ready for the updating process to begin.
- don't press any buttons until all files are installed successfully. - When the installation is complete, your Galaxy S3 will reboot and you can disconnect it from PC when the Samsung boot animation appears.
- Enter your Google Account details. That should be all, the update to Android 4.3 is now complete.

If the phone doesn't boot in normal mode after installing all files, then you will be forced to apply a factory reset. Here's how to apply Factory Reset for your Galaxy S3 on Android 4.3:
- power off the device completely.
- remove it battery, then re-insert it after a few seconds. - boot your phone in Recovery Mode.
- read the info here if you don't know how to boot stock Recovery Mode. - select 'wipe data/ factory reset' and confirm.
- return to the main Recovery screen.
- reboot your phone in normal mode.
- enter the Google Account info and take control over your smartphone once again.
